OUR ACCOMMODATION
Since 2001, the Terra di Seta winery has been part of a family-run organic farm run by Daniele Della Seta and his wife Maria Pellegrini. According to the best Tuscan tradition, the Pellegrini family has been producing wine for four generations.
Terra di Seta covers 46 hectares in the Municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, within the Additional Geographical Unit of Vagliagli, north of Siena, which is only about ten kilometers away.
For some years Maria Pellegrini and Daniele Della Seta gave their grapes to other wineries in the area. 2007 saw the construction of the new cellar and the first vintage of wine with the Terra di Seta label.
Maria has a long experience in the wine sector handed down for generations. After working for over twenty-five years as a biologist, Daniele has dedicated himself completely to the company in recent years. Both work together daily in everything related to Terra di Seta, from tending the vineyard to the harvest, from the production and sale of wine. Maria e Daniele also take care of the organization of visits and wine tastings, and welcoming guests who wish to stay in the apartments at the farm, for vacation.
VINEYARDS AND OLIVE GROVES
The 15 hectares of vineyards are gathered in a single body that extends around the cellar, with a south-east to south-west exposure. The company has focused heavily on Sangiovese, using different clones selected from among the best, mainly of Chianti origin.
Terra di Seta, despite being in the southernmost area of the Chianti Classico production area, is located about 500 meters above sea level, surrounded by woods, on top of a hillock from which you can enjoy an open and bright panorama, with a view of Siena. A particular microclimate characterizes vineyerds, with a constant afternoon breeze and excellent temperature ranges between day and night.
The soils are characterized by Macigno, Galestro and Alberese, an ideal terroir for subtle and fragrant red wines. The soil is rocky and dry, with the roots of the vine that go deep down and find water rich in minerals, which give strength and elegance to the wine.
As per the Chianti tradition, the company produces an excellent Extra Virgin Olive Oil, obtained exclusively from the best olives of Tuscan varieties, from the over one thousand olive trees on the property.
ORGANIC, SUSTAINABILITY, BIODIVERSITY
Terra di Seta has been certified organic since 2001, a choice dictated by the desire to practice targeted, sustainable and contemporary viticulture, supported by the characteristics of the territory and the position of the vineyards, factors that have made it possible to obtain excellent results immediately, while preserving the uniqueness of the soils and the Chianti style.
The organic management – carried out also thanks to the professional support of the agronomist Ruggero Mazzilli – is based on the respectful and careful cultivation of the vines and olive trees, the targeted pruning of every single plant, the use of organic products and grassing, and the use of the green manure, which makes plants more resistant to disease and increases the organic component of the soil and the natural fertility of the soil. The most evident result of this sustainable agronomic choice is the maintenance of biodiversity: on the farm, there are many plants and flowers in the area and numerous species of birds and wild animals.
The company also produces and uses alternative energy through photovoltaic and solar systems.
kosher
Terra di Seta is the only winery in Italy whose entire wine production, from its grapes – since 2008 – is supervised by strict Kosher certification, which guarantees the suitability of the foods to be consumed by Jewish observant people, by the dietary and hygienic-sanitary rules established in the Torah.
All stages of vinification up to bottling are established and coordinated by the owners and by the oenologist, Enrico Paternoster, under the strict supervision of three different kosher certifications (OK, EuroK, and Rabbi Weissmendl).
HOSPITALITY AND FOOD
The Agriturismo Le Macie, inside the company, is a family-run tourist accommodation that dominates the surrounding countryside, not far from Siena, and is the ideal place for those who want to enjoy the quiet of an authentic rural landscape among the Tuscan hills, made up of woods, and olive trees, the unique charm of a stay in Chianti Classico.
The five guest apartments are located in the 18th-century farmhouse and in the agricultural annex which offers comfort and tranquility, with a total of 20 beds. In the farmhouse, there is also a panoramic swimming pool, at guests’ disposal.
The property organizes visits and tastings of its products, and since 2018 the possibility of eating in a small restaurant (kosher, dairy) has been added, which mainly offers dishes of Tuscan cuisine, based on local legumes, ancient Tuscan grains, and products from the organic garden.
The “Terra di Seta” brand, therefore, represents the objective of the Della Seta-Pellegrini family, which is to obtain traditional products of excellent quality and refinement, coming from a unique land that characterizes them.
